Tennessee Volunteers conclude preseason camp with final scrimmage
The Tennessee Volunteers have concluded their second and final preseason scrimmage at Neyland Stadium as they prepare for their 130th season. Head coach Josh Heupel noted that while the defense performed well by creating turnovers, the offense requires continued improvement in communication and mechanics.
A central focus remains the ongoing quarterback competition between sophomore George MacIntyre and true freshman Faizon Brandon. Reports indicate that Brandon, a former five-star recruit, may have the edge for the Week 1 starting role against Furman due to his dual-threat capabilities and rushing ability.
Defensively, the safety position has seen significant activity. With captain Edrees Farooq sidelined due to injury, newcomers TJ Metcalf and Dejuan Lane have stepped up, both recording interceptions during the recent scrimmage. The team will now transition into mock game week before their season opener on September 5.
