Charlie Hatcher defeats Trump-backed Andy Ogles in Tennessee GOP primary

Incumbent Rep. Andy Ogles, a Trump‑endorsed member of the Freedom Caucus, lost the Republican primary for Tennessee’s newly redrawn 5th Congressional District to former state Agriculture Commissioner Charlie Hatcher. Ogles was defeated by a margin of roughly 53% to 47% after more than 95% of votes were counted.

The upset occurred after the Tennessee Legislature redrew the district, making 82% of its voters new to Ogles. Hatcher was backed by Governor Bill Lee and received significant outside support, including $688,000 from the Invest in Tomorrow political action committee. Ogles faced multiple scandals, including a resume‑misrepresentation claim and a campaign‑finance investigation, and raised less money than Hatcher during the race.
