Vancouver Police Deploy K‑9 to End 40‑Minute Impaired‑Driver Standoff

Police in Vancouver, Washington, released body‑camera and dash‑camera footage of a 40‑minute standoff with a suspected impaired driver. The driver, identified as Brandon Wells, was observed inhaling from compressed‑air cans while operating his vehicle, prompting officers to pursue him after he failed to stop for a traffic stop.

Officers used a Grappler device to disable the vehicle, but Wells continued to refuse commands to exit the car. After more than 40 minutes of negotiation, officers deployed K‑9 Midas, which leapt through the driver’s side window. Officers quickly surrounded the vehicle, and the K‑9 helped secure Wells, who was then taken into custody. He was booked into the Clark County Jail on charges of attempting to elude police, driving under the influence, reckless driving and resisting arrest. The Vancouver Police Department posted the video publicly to illustrate the incident and its resolution.
