Tennessee National Guard shot Memphis man in the back, autopsy shows
An autopsy report has revealed that Tyrin Johnson, a 20-year-old man, was shot in the back by Tennessee National Guard members during an incident in Memphis. This finding contradicts previous accounts from authorities, who stated that Johnson was shot in the chest while turning toward the troops with a firearm.
The shooting occurred in the early morning hours following the Fourth of July holiday. The National Guard members involved were part of the Memphis Safe Task Force, a federal anti-crime initiative. According to a National Guard report, two members responded to a call regarding shots fired, approached the suspect, and fired their M17 handguns after the individual allegedly pointed a tan handgun at them.
The West Tennessee Regional Forensic Center Office of the Medical Examiner prepared the autopsy findings. The Memphis Safe Task Force has been involved in four fatal shootings between May and July.
