Tennessee Removes Nursing Home Inspection Reports from State Website

The Tennessee Health Facilities Commission decided to take all nursing‑home inspection and investigation reports off the state’s website, saying the documents could violate HIPAA because they contain personal health information and that the agency lacks resources to redact them. The removal includes reports on the Waters of Springfield facility, such as the investigation of resident Jay Kritsch’s death after a fall, which had previously led to a fine and a temporary ban on new admissions.

ProPublica’s Nursing Home Inspect site continues to publish the same reports without resident names, providing the public with staffing numbers, violations and investigation details that the state no longer displays. The commission’s action has left families and consumers without easy access to information about nursing‑home safety in Tennessee.

Separately, a 911 call recorded at Waters of Springfield showed the facility falsely claiming that CPR was being performed on a patient who was actually not breathing, raising further concerns about the home’s handling of emergencies and resident deaths.
