Tennessee schools launch quantum computing pilot program

A pilot program called TN QuantumWorks is being implemented in 13 schools across Hamilton County, Tennessee, to introduce quantum computing concepts to students. The initiative aims to determine how quantum ideas can be understood through analogies without causing confusion between models and reality.

Teachers use everyday objects such as coins, paired cards, and cereal to model qubits, superposition, and entanglement. The curriculum is designed for four age groups, ranging from elementary school students, who engage with light and pattern games, to older teenagers who simulate quantum security scenarios and compare different machines.

The program was designed by Thinking Media with support from the state of Tennessee, the local school district, the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, and the local company EPB. While currently a local pilot, there are aspirations to expand the program to other schools throughout the state.
