Tennessee Senate race: Bill Hagerty vs. Marquita Bradshaw
Democratic activist Marquita Bradshaw secured the Democratic nomination for Tennessee’s U.S. Senate seat after winning the primary with just over 50% of the vote. She will face incumbent Republican Senator Bill Hagerty, who ran unopposed in the Republican primary and holds President Trump’s endorsement.
Hagerty’s campaign finances dwarf those of his opponents, with more than $5 million on hand, while Bradshaw’s fundraising totals are under $10,000, including only $2,257.07 reported as of mid‑July. Democrats have not won a Senate race in Tennessee since 1990. The race occurs as fellow Republican Senator Marsha Blackburn runs for governor, a contest that could later affect the other Tennessee Senate seat.
The contest is set for the November 2024 general election, with both candidates positioning themselves for a high‑profile showdown in a traditionally Republican state.
