Tennessee State Senator Brent Taylor faces scrutiny over conduct and legislative record
Tennessee State Senator Brent Taylor, a Republican candidate for the U.S. Congress in Tennessee’s 9th Congressional District, is facing scrutiny regarding both his personal conduct and his legislative history.
Reports indicate that Taylor has a history of sending unsolicited nude photos. While Taylor acknowledged sending such images in the past, he dismissed them as “youthful indiscretions” that have been forgiven by his wife. One anonymous source claimed to have received an unsolicited nude photo from Taylor as recently as 2021.
Additionally, Taylor’s legislative record is being questioned by critics in the Memphis area. As a state senator, he has supported laws that limit the authority of local elected officials, such as restricting how county judges set bail. Critics argue these preemption laws disproportionately affect Black residents. Taylor is now running for a redrawn congressional seat that was previously a majority-Black district but is now majority-white following redistricting efforts by the state legislature.
