Tennessee State University expands academic programs and enrollment
Tennessee State University (TSU) has launched the first Mining Engineering Program at an HBCU, supported by a Department of Energy grant to prepare a workforce for critical mineral production. This initiative marks the only program of its kind in the state funded by such a grant.
The university, a Carnegie R2 classified institution, also reported a significant enrollment surge, welcoming more than 1,600 freshmen this fall—nearly quadrupling the previous year's class size.
