Tennessee Valley Authority Announces Grants for Nonprofits and STEM Education

The Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) and local power company Athens Electric awarded $46,000 to twelve nonprofit organizations in Limestone County, Alabama, through the TVA Cares program. Grants support projects such as prescription assistance, senior meals, robotics, scholarships, literacy, and environmental cleanup. Notable awards include $9,580 to the Calhoun Community College Foundation for lineman scholarships and $3,500 to the Athens‑Limestone Hospital Foundation’s Patient Assistance Program.

Separately, TVA is offering up to $5,000 per STEM project to teachers in its seven‑state service area, with $1.5 million available in partnership with the retiree group Bicentennial Volunteers. The competitive program, managed with the Tennessee STEM Innovation Network, received 528 applications last year and funded 339 projects, bringing the total STEM awards since 2018 to $9.5 million for over 845,000 students. Educators in Kentucky and other TVA‑served states can apply through the TVA website until September 15.
