TenneT and Stedin advance Dutch power grid with new substation and flexible contracts

The municipality of The Hague, together with grid operators Stedin and TenneT, is planning a new main substation on the edge of the ZKD industrial area. The facility, expected to be operational between 2033 and 2035, will reinforce the local network and eventually supply electricity to about 60,000 households and businesses in The Hague Southwest.

In the province of Zeeland, TenneT has freed up 260 MW of transmission capacity by signing flexible power‑usage contracts and deploying a large battery system. As a result, 173 companies and institutions have been removed from the waiting list for grid connections, improving supply for schools, hospitals and other priority users.

Both measures aim to alleviate congestion on the Dutch high‑voltage network and support the country's broader transition to a more resilient electricity system.
