Tennis grows in Brazil amid rising stars and Bia Haddad's hiatus

Tennis is experiencing a period of growth in Brazil, driven by both rising professional stars and an increase in amateur participation, particularly among women. While João Fonseca represents a new commercial and competitive phase for the sport, the recent temporary hiatus of Bia Haddad has shifted the spotlight.

Bia Haddad is currently taking a break from the professional circuit to focus on her physical and mental health. She is scheduled to undergo surgery on her left shoulder with a four-month recovery period. During her time away, she plans to study Sports Management at Harvard University between September and December 2026. Haddad noted the mental toll of the professional circuit, stating that the intensity of the sport has been difficult to manage.

The surge in interest is also visible in local academies and consumer trends, with more women joining the sport and investing in specialized athletic gear.
