Tennis stars protest 2028 Olympic schedule

Top professional tennis players are expressing significant frustration regarding the proposed schedule for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games. The current plan has the Olympic tennis tournament beginning on July 19, just three days after the Wimbledon final concludes on July 16.

Players including Aryna Sabalenka, Iga Swiatek, Elena Rybakina, and Daniil Medvedev have criticized the lack of recovery time. Concerns center on the physical stress of competing in back-to-back major events, the necessity of traveling from Europe to the United States coast, and the lack of time to adapt to different court surfaces.

Sabalenka described the three-day gap as ‘ridiculous’ and advocated for at least a one-week break to manage physical strain. Medvedev suggested that even a six-day gap would be preferable to the current three-day window.
