Bianca Andreescu advances to final US Open qualifying round

Former US Open champion Bianca Andreescu has advanced through the qualifying rounds at the US Open. Currently ranked 183rd in the world, the 26-year-old Canadian secured her second qualifying victory by defeating Ukraine’s Veronika Podrez with a score of 6-0, 6-3.

Andreescu’s path began with a dominant 6-1, 6-2 win over Netherlands' Eva Vedder, a match in which she recorded five aces and 23 winners. She now requires only one more win to enter the main draw, where she is scheduled to face Slovenia’s Tamara Zidansek.

Other notable results from the qualifying rounds include China’s Qinwen Zheng, who defeated Clara Burel, and several rising young players such as Julieta Pareja and Kristina Liutova advancing to the final qualifying stage.
