Tenstorrent raises $1.5 billion at $6.2 billion valuation

Tenstorrent, a Toronto-based AI computing hardware startup, has closed a $1.5 billion Series E funding round, bringing its post-money valuation to $6.2 billion. The round was led by Trace Capital and Innovation X, with participation from a diverse group of investors including Tether Capital, Fidelity Management & Research, ARK Invest, Morgan Stanley, and T. Rowe Price.

Led by semiconductor industry veteran Jim Keller, the company aims to use the new capital to scale the production of its Galaxy servers, advance its AI and CPU intellectual property, and expand its global commercial operations. Tenstorrent specializes in RISC-V-based AI processors and systems, positioning itself as an alternative to traditional GPU providers like Nvidia. Its technology is already utilized by major companies such as Samsung and LG.

Keller noted that while the $1.5 billion is a significant sum, it is being deployed rapidly to address rising production costs for silicon and flash storage. The company's strategy focuses on providing scalable, energy-efficient AI compute solutions, ranging from individual cards to massive superclusters for running advanced frontier models.
