Tenzing film explores the first ascent of Mount Everest

The historical survival drama ‘Tenzing’, directed by Jennifer Peedom, chronicles the story of Tenzing Norgay and his ascent of Mount Everest alongside New Zealand mountaineer Edmund Hillary. The film explores the first successful summit of the mountain, highlighting the tensions between different backgrounds, classes, and competing nationalistic ambitions.

Starring Genden Phuntsok, Tom Hiddleston, Willem Dafoe, and Caitríona Balfe, the production depicts Tenzing Norgay’s perspective of the mountain as a sacred goddess rather than a peak to be conquered. The film is based in part on Ed Douglas’ nonfiction biography and is set to premiere on Apple TV.
