Tenzing Norgay biopic ‘Tenzing’ explores historic Everest ascent

The new Apple Studios film ‘Tenzing,’ directed by Jennifer Peedom, centers on the life of Nepalese-Indian Sherpa mountaineer Tenzing Norgay. The biopic chronicles Norgay’s journey leading up to the historic 1953 ascent of Mount Everest alongside Edmund Hillary.

Directed with an emphasis on authenticity, the film features cultural consultants and utilizes Tibetan actors to portray Sherpas. The production includes Norbu Tenzing, Norgay’s son, as an executive producer. Genden Phuntsok, an actor of Tibetan descent, portrays Norgay, while Tom Hiddleston plays Hillary and Willem Dafoe portrays Col. John Hunt.

‘Tenzing’ is scheduled to open in theaters this Friday before becoming available for streaming on Apple TV+ on October 16.
