Teodora Axente inaugurates art exhibition in Siena

The exhibition “Allegoria. Dedica ad Ambrogio Lorenzetti” has opened at the Museo Civico di Siena. This site-specific project by Romanian artist Teodora Axente is designed to engage in dialogue with Ambrogio Lorenzetti’s 14th-century masterpiece, the cycle of “Allegory and Effects of Good and Bad Government.”

The exhibition, curated by Riccardo Freddo and Michela Eremita, features two monumental polyptychs comprising twenty-two previously unseen paintings. These works are positioned to create a spatial and conceptual confrontation with Lorenzetti's medieval frescoes, offering contemporary interpretations of symbolic figures such as Justice, Peace, Prudence, Temperance, Tyranny, Cruelty, and Fraud.

Siena Mayor Nicoletta Fabio noted that the project connects the city's historical identity with contemporary sensitivity. The artistic collaboration is set to continue with the creation of the Drappellone for the Palio on August 16. The exhibition will be open to the public from August 9 to September 27 in the Sala dei Pilastri.
