Teodora Dimova presents new novel on Bulgarian history
Author Teodora Dimova presented her new novel, ‘Everything That Happens’, at the Sofia City Library. The book explores themes of memory, antisemitism, and the historical events surrounding the rescue of Bulgarian Jews during World War II.
The novel features a protagonist inspired by Dimitar Peshev, a key historical figure who participated in the parliamentary process regarding the Law for Protection of the Nation in 1940 but later opposed the deportation of Bulgarian Jews in 1943.
During the literary event, participants including Georgi Angelov, Prof. Amelia Licheva, and Prof. Albert Benbasat discussed the importance of addressing painful historical truths. Angelov noted that societal divisions can only be overcome by confronting the past, while Licheva emphasized that literature should serve to process historical traumas that are often met with silence.
