Teofilândia vice-mayor Ivana Meury dies at 53

Ivana Meury de Araújo Moura, the vice-mayor of Teofilândia, died at the age of 53. She passed away during the early hours of Friday in Salvador while receiving medical treatment at Hospital Geral Roberto Santos.

Meury Moura had been undergoing medical care since July following complaints of back pain. In August, her condition worsened, and she was diagnosed with liver cancer. She was serving her third term as vice-mayor, having been re-elected alongside Mayor Higor Moura for the 2025–2028 term.

A member of a prominent local political family, she was the granddaughter of former mayor Antônio Serapião and the wife of former mayor Jackson Moura. In response to her death, the municipal government suspended public school classes to allow residents to pay their respects. The funeral procession is scheduled to depart from the Teofilândia City Council, with burial set for 4:00 PM at the Municipal Cemetery.
