Teofimo Lopez Jr. blames father for Stevenson defeat

Boxer Teofimo Lopez Jr. has publicly attributed his January defeat to Shakur Stevenson to the guidance provided by his father and trainer, Teofimo Lopez Sr. In recent interviews, Lopez Jr. expressed frustration regarding the instructions received during the fight, alleging that instead of strategic guidance, he heard demoralizing comments, including his father questioning his power while he was bleeding.

During a candid exchange, Lopez Jr. emphasized his desire to take personal responsibility while still addressing the breakdown in communication. Teofimo Lopez Sr. acknowledged the criticism, at one point stating, “Whatever it is, we both messed up,” while also suggesting that external forces attempted to affect his son mentally.

This tension arises as Lopez Jr. prepares for a welterweight title challenge against Rolando “Rolly” Romero scheduled for later this month.
