Teoman Madra photography exhibition opens in Ayvalık

A retrospective exhibition featuring the works of Teoman Madra, a pioneer of digital art in Turkey, has opened at the Orhan Peker Art Gallery in Ayvalık. The collection showcases selected photographs produced between 1960 and 1980, capturing the social and economic memory of the region.

The exhibition includes portraits and images documenting Ayvalık’s olive oil industry and daily urban life. Madra’s work is noted for its focus on light play and its role in preserving the town's cultural identity. Ayvalık Mayor Mesut Ergin emphasized the importance of passing these values to future generations.

Beral Madra, the artist's wife, noted that Teoman Madra was also involved in managing the family's olive oil business and contributed to local conservation efforts starting in 1976. The exhibition will remain open to visitors until September 30, with plans for a larger retrospective exhibition in Istanbul in 2027.
