Tequila councilwoman Luz Elena Aguirre resigns from Morena
Luz Elena Aguirre, a councilwoman in Tequila, Jalisco, has resigned from the Morena party to serve as an independent official. She described her departure as a “voluntary, express, and irrevocable” decision driven by a need for personal consistency and civic vocation.
Aguirre cited a lack of support from party leadership following her denunciations of former mayor Diego Rivera Navarro. She accused Rivera Navarro of corruption, threats, harassment, and political violence against women. Aguirre noted that despite being under the protection of the Jalisco government’s ‘Pulso de Vida’ program due to imminent risks, she felt abandoned by Morena during the attacks.
