Teramo power outage disrupts hospital and 2,000 users

A major power outage in Teramo has left over 2,000 users without electricity, impacting critical infrastructure including the local university and the Mazzini hospital. While the hospital maintained essential services through emergency generators, medical staff reported significant disruptions, including the need to limit air conditioning and concerns regarding medical equipment due to voltage fluctuations. The local health authority (ASL) has issued a formal warning to E-Distribuzione regarding these risks.

Teramo Mayor Gianguido D'Alberto has labeled the situation “unacceptable,” citing the extreme fragility of the electrical grid. He is demanding immediate and automatic compensation for citizens on their utility bills and has called for a technical meeting involving regional and provincial authorities to hold E-Distribuzione accountable. Regional Councilor Giovanni Cavallari has also requested an urgent meeting of the Regional Supervisory Commission to demand transparency regarding grid investments and maintenance.

In response to the calls for compensation, the consumer association Konsumer Abruzzo noted that refunds are regulated by Arera. According to their guidelines, automatic compensation is due for domestic customers if power restoration takes longer than eight hours, though specific procedures for claiming damages must follow standard civil code rules.
