Teramo moves toward unified gas distribution management

The Municipality of Teramo has concluded the political and administrative phase required to transition toward a unified gas distribution service for the ATEM territorial area. This area includes nearly all municipalities in the province of Teramo, excluding Silvi, as well as Elice and Maltignano.

The next step involves submitting documentation regarding network reconnaissance to ARERA (the Italian Regulatory Authority for Energy, Networks and the Environment) for data validation. ARERA is expected to respond within 60 days. Once validated, the Municipality of Teramo, acting as the lead entity and contracting authority, intends to publish the public tender for a single gas distributor by the summer of 2027.

The initiative aims to replace the current fragmented system, which is managed by approximately ten different providers, with a single operator selected through competitive bidding. Mayor Gianguido D’Alberto noted that the current system relies on outdated concessions that do not provide proportionate fees to local municipalities, and the new procedure seeks to improve economic conditions for local authorities.
