Terengganu immigration authorities detain 1,257 undocumented migrants

The Terengganu Immigration Department conducted 334 enforcement operations between January and August 15, inspecting a total of 4,884 foreign nationals. These integrated operations targeted high-risk areas, including construction sites, residential properties, business premises, plantations, and housing areas.

According to Director Mohd Yusri Mohd Nor, the raids resulted in the detention of 1,257 undocumented migrants. The breakdown of offenses includes 522 individuals without valid documents or permits, 317 overstaying their visas, 372 abusing their passes, and 46 other immigration-related violations.

Authorities have opened 207 investigation papers and collected RM2.887 million in compounds. Furthermore, 727 individuals have been prosecuted in court, consisting of 707 undocumented migrants and 20 employers who were found to be harboring or employing illegal foreigners. These court proceedings have resulted in recorded fines totaling RM602,000. The operations were carried out in collaboration with the National Security Council, local authorities, and the Royal Malaysia Police.
