Tereos targets 50% emission reduction by 2032

Tereos, a major producer of sugar, ethanol, and bioenergy, has released its 2025/2026 Sustainability Report, highlighting significant progress in decarbonization efforts. The company aims to reduce Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 50% by the 2032/2033 harvest, while targeting a 36% reduction in Scope 3 emissions related to land use and agricultural activities (FLAG).

The company’s long-term goal is to achieve net zero emissions by 2050. These climate targets have been validated by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). To reach these objectives, Tereos is integrating ESG strategies across its entire value chain, focusing on regenerative agriculture, the use of bioinputs, and precision farming technologies.

During the 2025/26 harvest, 68.19% of the total sugarcane volume processed was certified under internationally recognized standards. Key operational initiatives include the expanded use of vinasse in sugarcane fields, the adoption of biological fungicides and insecticides, and testing autonomous equipment and ethanol-powered tractors. Additionally, the company plans to replace approximately 30% of its current nitrogen consumption with low-carbon fertilizers.
