Teresa Perales reaches 100 international medals
Spanish Paralympic swimmer Teresa Perales has reached a career milestone by securing her 100th international medal. During the European Paralympic Swimming Championships in Kocaeli, Turkey, she won the gold medal in the 50m backstroke S2, marking her 100th medal in a career spanning 26 years.
Perales, who has earned 28 Paralympic medals, recently underwent a sporting reclassification to S2 following an injury that affected the mobility of one of her arms. Despite the physical challenges, she continues to compete at an elite level. Regarding her future in the sport, Perales noted that while she recognizes she has an eventual “expiration date,” she intends to let her physical condition and motivation determine when she retires.
