Teresa Pugliatti, prominent art historian, dies at 92

Teresa Pugliatti, a renowned art historian and former professor at the University of Palermo, has passed away at the age of 92. Her career was marked by extensive academic research and a dedicated commitment to protecting the cultural heritage of Sicily and Messina.

Pugliatti authored over 200 scientific contributions, including monographs and essays covering subjects ranging from medieval painting and the Sicilian Quattrocento to the Renaissance, Mannerism, and contemporary art. Her notable works include studies on Agostino Tassi and comprehensive volumes on 16th-century Sicilian painting.

In a significant gesture to the community, Pugliatti recently donated her personal library to the University of Messina’s cultural center. The collection consists of approximately 25,000 volumes, along with photographic albums, handwritten manuscripts, and extensive correspondence with international intellectuals and art historians, providing a valuable resource for future research and teaching.
