Teresa Ribera visits Croatia’s Agency for Market Competition Protection
Teresa Ribera, the European Commission Executive Vice President for a Clean, Fair and Competitive Transition and Commissioner for Competition, visited the Croatian Agency for Market Competition Protection (AZTN) on Friday. The visit focused on the implementation of EU competition law, AZTN’s participation in the European Competition Network (ECN), and cooperation with the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Competition.
During the meeting, AZTN Council President Mirta Kapural presented a proposal for a new competition protection law designed to align Croatia’s legal framework with the ECN+ Directive and OECD recommendations. Discussions also covered the agency’s role in enforcing the Digital Markets Act (DMA) and its proposed status as a national contact point for the Foreign Subsidies Regulation (FSR).
The agency highlighted several operational challenges, including the need for increased material resources, the strengthening of professional capacities, and the difficulty of retaining existing specialists to effectively manage its expanding responsibilities.
