Teresa Silva presents Minho heritage exhibition at UNIPVC

Illustrator Teresa Silva is launching “Filha do Minho: Arte e Legado,” an exhibition of illustration and ethnography at the Polytechnic University of Viana do Castelo (UNIPVC). Opening on October 30 at the Oficina Cultural, the exhibition will remain on display until January 2027.

Silva’s work focuses on traditional Minho attire rather than facial features, using colors, embroidery, and specific garment elements to identify the unique origins of different communities and parishes. The artist aims to use these illustrations to preserve collective histories and symbols of belonging, distinguishing between personal vanity and the pride of preserving ancestral heritage. The exhibition also serves as a tribute to the women in Silva’s own family.
