Teresina health officials report low demand for cataract surgery screenings
The Municipal Health Foundation (FMS) has issued an alert regarding low demand for a cataract surgery initiative in Teresina. Officials confirmed that vacancies remain available for ophthalmological evaluations.
Screening sessions are being held this week at various Basic Health Units (UBS). Locations include UBS Planalto Uruguai in the east zone, UBS Parque Piauí in the south zone, and UBS Ceci Fortes in the north zone. The service is available to patients already on the waiting list, as well as individuals over 55 with ophthalmic complaints or suspected cataracts, even if they are not currently registered.
Ophthalmologists from HVisão are conducting the consultations. If surgery is indicated following the screening, patients will have the procedure scheduled at HVisão. There are 350 vacancies available per day. Patients may visit any participating UBS for screening, regardless of their place of residence, provided they present personal identification, a SUS card, and proof of residence.
