Teresina municipal guard plans 300 new hires to address staffing shortfall

The municipal security secretary of Teresina, Colonel Wagner Torres, announced that a public contest will be launched to recruit about 300 new municipal guard officers, roughly doubling the current force of 298. The recruitment is aimed at reaching the constitutional target of around 2,000 guards for a city of nearly one million residents. The announcement is expected between September and October, pending fiscal approval from Mayor Sílvio Mendes.

During the early stages of moving the guard's headquarters to a new address, a condenser from an air‑conditioning unit was stolen. Police arrested Antonio Gonçalves da Costa on suspicion of receiving the stolen equipment. The investigation, led by the guard's intelligence service, continues as the relocation proceeds.
