Infrastructure projects across Central Europe involve bridge replacements and flood defenses

Several major infrastructure projects are underway across the Czech Republic, Slovakia, and Poland. In Klatovy, a new railway bridge has replaced the notorious “Klatovska gilotina,” which frequently caused damage to high-clearance trucks. In Kladno, the Sítenský bridge is scheduled for demolition in November, with a new replacement expected by 2029.

Other significant developments include the construction of a new road bridge in Pernink, which was completed ahead of schedule, and delays in České Budějovice, where difficult geological conditions have pushed the completion of the Kosmonautů bridge to spring 2026. In Jihlava, ongoing roadworks near the bus station are causing significant traffic diversions.

In Slovakia, a new overpass near Stupava is being integrated into the Devínska Nová Ves – Marchegg international cycle route to improve safety. Meanwhile, in the Czech Republic, a proposal for the Nowe Herminovy dam on the Opava river has moved forward. This project aims to protect 16,000 people in Krnov and is expected to provide flood protection for several Polish municipalities, including Bliszczyce, Boboluszki, and Branice.
