Rio de Janeiro implements various transportation updates
Various transportation updates have been announced in Rio de Janeiro. The Regional Electoral Court (TRE-RJ) is launching a pilot program to provide free, adapted transport for voters with disabilities or reduced mobility in three locations: Complexo da Maré, São Pedro da Aldeia, and Itaocara. Requests must be submitted via an online form by September 14.
In urban mobility, the Rio de Janeiro City Hall has begun implementing dedicated motorcycle lanes on the Linha Vermelha, part of a plan to install 74 kilometers of such lanes by 2026. Additionally, the Terminal BRT Metropolitano in Irajá has launched a new interstate bus service to São Paulo, operated by Penha. This new route connects the terminal to the Tietê Bus Station, though the concessionaire of the Novo Rio Bus Station has raised concerns regarding the use of an urban terminal for long-distance interstate travel, calling for impact studies.
In Nova Iguaçu, TrensRJ reported the closure of a recurring illegal pedestrian crossing near Avenida Getúlio de Moura to ensure rail safety.
