Terminal Puerto Arica doubles legal disability employment rate

Terminal Puerto Arica (TPA) has implemented a labor inclusion program titled ‘Puerto Sin Barreras’ (Port Without Barriers), which has successfully integrated four new employees with disabilities into its operational and maintenance areas. This initiative brings the company’s disability employment rate to 2%, doubling the 1% legal requirement for businesses with more than 100 employees.

The program involved a multidisciplinary team of human resources and occupational health professionals, working in coordination with the National Training and Employment Service (SENCE). To ensure successful integration, TPA conducted internal sensitization workshops, which reported a 94% satisfaction rate among staff, and established a continuous accompaniment scheme for the new hires.

Regional authorities, including the Labor and Social Security Seremi Belén Núñez Ormeño and the regional director of SENCE Mario Cortez Rojas, visited the facilities to observe the operational model. Officials highlighted the effectiveness of the partnership with SENCE and expressed hope that the model could serve as an example for other companies in the sector.
