Termini Imerese mayor blocks festival over singer's mafia ties
Maria Terranova, the mayor of Termini Imerese, has refused to authorize the upcoming San Daniele celebrations due to the inclusion of singer Mauro Nardi (born Antonio Borrelli) in the event's program.
The decision follows public statements made by Nardi in television interviews, where he claimed to have performed at private parties attended by high-ranking members of organized crime, including figures such as Totuccio Inzerillo and Stefano Bontate. Nardi also described a relationship of affection and esteem with the Casamonica clan, noting that he received gifts such as bracelets and watches from them.
Mayor Terranova clarified that her decision is not a personal judgment on the artist but a refusal to grant municipal patronage to an event that does not align with the city's values. She cited the legacy of anti-mafia figures like Giovanni Falcone and Paolo Borsellino as the standard for public initiatives. The mayor noted that the festival could be rescheduled if a different program is proposed.
