Termozulia begins turbine assembly to add 150 MW to Zulia grid

Technical specialists in Maracaibo have begun the assembly of a one-metric-ton turbine wheel at the Termozulia complex. This operation aims to reactivate the TZ7 unit, which is expected to add 150 megawatts to the regional electrical system.

The heavy gear component was imported from Houston, Texas, as part of a broader effort to stabilize the power supply in Zulia state. Officials noted that the assembly process is expected to require seven days of continuous work to achieve proper coupling before the unit is powered on.

Zulia Governor Luis Caldera stated that this initiative is part of a larger investment to incorporate a total of 520 megawatts into the National Electric System (SEN). This plan includes the reactivation of units TZ02 and TZ05, as well as machinery from Rafael Urdaneta. Caldera noted that the acquisition of this equipment from the United States was facilitated by the lifting of certain restrictions by the U.S. Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) regarding energy and oil processes in Venezuela.
