Termozulia unit adds 150 MW to Venezuela's national grid

Venezuela has incorporated 150 megawatts (MW) into its National Electric System (SEN) following the activation of the Termozulia 5 (TZ5) thermoelectric unit. Located in the General Rafael Urdaneta Thermoelectric Complex in Zulia state, the unit's operation is part of a broader plan to stabilize the electrical flow in the western region of the country.

Minister of Electric Energy Rolando Alcalá stated that this reactivation aims to meet regional demand and contribute to the stability of the western system. The project is expected to directly benefit approximately 42,000 families in Zulia and adjacent areas.

Efforts to rehabilitate the electrical infrastructure are ongoing. Authorities are currently working to bring other units, including Termozulia 7 and Termozulia 2, as well as four machines from the Rafael Urdaneta plant, back into service. Similar recovery works are being implemented at other facilities, including Planta Centro in Carabobo, Picure in the capital region, and Guanta in Anzoátegui state.
