TERNA-built gas power plant in Komotini cited as global success by Siemens Energy
The 860 MW natural gas combined-cycle aeroderivative power plant at Thermoelektriki Komotinis A.E. has been recognized as a global success story. Constructed by TERNA, a subsidiary of GEK TERNA, and utilizing Siemens Energy equipment, the facility is the first of its kind to be operational worldwide.
During the third annual ‘SGT-9000HL Executive Customer Conference’ held in Athens from October 19-21, Siemens Energy leadership highlighted the project as a model of successful implementation. Dr. Christian Bruch, CEO of Siemens Energy, and Karim Amin, Executive Board Member and Head of Energy, praised TERNA for delivering the complex unit in record time compared to similar global projects.
High-level executives and international customers visited the Komotini plant, noting its environmental impact. The facility achieves a reduction in carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions of up to 3.7 million tons annually compared to conventional coal-fired power plants.
