Terni expands private night patrols amid police activity surge
The municipality of Terni, led by Mayor Stefano Bandecchi, has introduced private security patrols that operate during night hours. The model, praised by Federsicurezza secretary‑general Niccolò Francesconi, is being adopted by other Italian cities, including Forlì, as a complement to public police forces.
In the first half of 2026, the Terni police headquarters reported that 16,401 individuals were checked, resulting in 25 arrests, 163 complaints, drug seizures exceeding 500 g of cocaine, hashish and heroin, and the issuance of 95 mandatory eviction notices. The police also recorded multiple Daspo orders, special surveillance proposals, and a series of services supporting public events.
