Terni Mayor faces trial over council meeting misconduct

A new hearing has taken place regarding the legal proceedings against the Mayor of Terni, Stefano Bandecchi, following a tumultuous city council meeting on August 28, 2023. The charges against the mayor include threat, insult, violence, and resistance to a public official, as well as interruption of a public service and threats to a political body.

During the session, several witnesses provided testimony, including local police officers and city councilors Orlando Masselli and Marco Celestino Cecconi, the latter of whom is a civil party in the case. Sara Francescangeli, the President of the City Council, testified that the mayor had touched Cecconi on the head, a gesture she characterized as friendly, though the incident was part of a larger confrontation. Bandecchi expressed relief following the hearing, stating that the testimonies were in his favor despite some witnesses having poor memories of the events.
