Terni to host conference marking 200 years of Corot in the valley

The Fondazione Carit will host a conference titled ‘200 anni di Corot nella Valle Ternana’ on Friday, October 16, at Palazzo Montani Leoni. The event commemorates the bicentennial of French painter Jean-Baptiste Camille Corot’s stay in the Terni valley.

Part of the ‘200 Corot 1826–2026’ calendar and supported by the Honorary Consulate of France in Perugia, the conference will explore the historical period between the 18th and 19th centuries when landscape painting became a central theme in European art. This era saw artists moving from studios to work directly with nature and light.

Speakers include Anna Ciccarelli, Secretary of the Fondazione Carit, who will discuss the role of Central Italian landscapes for European travelers, and Anna Ottani Cavina, Professor Emerita of Modern Art History at the University of Bologna. The event also serves as a preview for a major exhibition planned by the Foundation for early 2027, focusing on the relationship between artists and the landscapes of Central Italy.
