Terra Alegre achieves 35% CO2 reduction in logistics
Terra Alegre, a dairy company under Jerónimo Martins Agro-Alimentar (JMA), has been awarded the 3rd Lean & Green Star by GS1 Portugal. This recognition follows the company's achievement of a 35% cumulative reduction in CO2 emissions within its transport and logistics operations.
The reduction was achieved through a sustained decarbonization plan involving several strategic measures. These include optimizing vehicle occupancy rates, using higher-capacity cisterns for milk transport, and adopting more efficient vehicles. The company also moved milk production closer to its factory by reinforcing production at Best Farmer.
Infrastructure investments include a 1,000 kWp photovoltaic park for renewable self-consumption, an ammonia-based cold center, LED and natural lighting, and bioclimatic climate control systems. Additionally, the company utilized Ecodiesel B20/B30 fuel with partners to reduce emissions and integrated its fleet into Jerónimo Martins' backhauling operations to minimize empty return trips.
