Terra Memoriae project to research Via Transilvanica cultural heritage

The Terra Memoriae project, an interdisciplinary national initiative scheduled to run from 2026 to 2028, will transform the Via Transilvanica route into a space for humanist research, artistic creation, and cultural memory. The project aims to document the people, traditions, and identities of the 400 communities located along the 1,600-kilometer route.

Initiated by the organization Tășuleasa Social and the UmanEast Association for Education and Culture, in partnership with Radio România Cultural, the project brings researchers, artists, and journalists directly into local communities. The initiative seeks to explore fundamental questions regarding identity and heritage by engaging with the ethnographic, gastronomic, and natural landscapes of the region.

In areas such as Caraș-Severin, the project will focus on preserving authentic stories and traditional practices that are at risk of disappearing. Alin Uhlmann Ușeriu, president of Tășuleasa Social, described the project as an opportunity to delve into the depth of these locations to foster a better understanding of national identity.
