Terra Santa: Pickup truck kills one and injures 10 in religious march

A pickup truck struck 11 people during the Marcha para Jesus religious event in Terra Santa, Pará, on Saturday, August 15. The incident resulted in the death of 70-year-old Dulcinéia Oliveira Pantoja, who died approximately one hour after receiving medical attention.

Witnesses reported that the vehicle drove into the crowd and also struck a residence, causing property damage. Among those injured were children, some of whom were being transported in the bed of the vehicle when the impact occurred. Several victims were transferred to health units in Oriximiná, Santarém, and Parintins for treatment.

The driver, who was injured and remains in serious condition at the Municipal Hospital Frei Elizeu Eisman, was identified by the Civil Police. Investigations revealed that the driver did not possess a driver's license and was reportedly still learning to drive. Authorities are currently reviewing security footage and interviewing witnesses to determine if the crash was caused by a loss of control or a mechanical failure.
