Terra X series releases documentary on North Sea myths and examines AI deepfake threats

The German documentary series Terra X aired two recent episodes that explore distinct topics. One episode, "Mythos Nordsee," traces the geological formation of the North Sea, its historical significance for Europe, and the legends surrounding its coasts, including tales of Avalon, sea gods and giant krakens. It highlights the sea’s role in trade, its dense ship traffic and the cultural heritage of the millions living along its shores.

Another episode, presented by astrophysicist Harald Lesch, focuses on the rise of AI‑generated deepfakes. The program explains how advanced machine‑learning models create realistic videos, the challenges they pose for public trust, and the European Union’s new labeling regulation. It also discusses the growing energy and water consumption of AI data centres and the broader societal implications of synthetic media.
