Terracina commemorates Federico Salvagni one year after fatal hit-and-run
The community of Terracina gathered on August 14, 2026, to commemorate Federico Salvagni, a 16-year-old who was killed in a hit-and-run accident one year ago. The ceremony took place at the exact location of the tragedy on the former provincial road connecting Terracina to San Felice Circeo.
Federico was struck by a vehicle while walking with his twin brother and a friend during the Ferragosto holiday. The driver, a 48-year-old man driving without a license and under the influence, fled the scene but was later identified by local police and Carabinieri. The suspect remains in custody awaiting trial.
Local officials, including Mayor Francesco Giannetti, used the occasion to reaffirm commitments to road safety. The administration is working on implementing safety measures such as pedestrian crossings and deterrents on the stretch of road, which lacks sidewalks despite heavy tourist traffic. The local police are also mapping accident-prone areas to improve prevention efforts.
