Terranuova Bracciolini commemorates A1 crash victims with torchlight ceremony
A torchlight procession was held in Terranuova Bracciolini to mark the first anniversary of a fatal A1 highway crash that killed Gianni Trappolini, Giulia Santoni and Franco Lovari. Hundreds of residents, local officials and associations gathered at the Prada plant before walking to the crash site, where a new stone sculpture by artist Pietro Fabbroni now stands as a permanent reminder.
Family members spoke, with Gianni Trappolini’s wife Laura emphasizing the need for safer roads and the community’s ongoing support. The ceremony also revived calls for stricter highway safety measures, noting recent restrictions on overtaking as a positive step. Mayor Sergio Chienni and other officials highlighted the collective mourning and the importance of keeping the victims’ memory alive through the commemorative monument.
The event underscored both personal loss and broader concerns about traffic safety on Italy’s A1 corridor.
