Housing protests erupt in Catalonia amid Terrassa shooting
Protests regarding housing legislation have intensified across Catalonia. Approximately 800 people gathered at Plaça de Sant Jaume in Barcelona to demand the validation of housing decrees, organized by the Sindicat de Llogateres. Demonstrators also targeted Junts per Catalunya headquarters in both Barcelona and Lleida, with the latter site receiving graffiti in protest of the party's decision to vote against government housing decrees.
In Sant Cugat, the Sindicat de Llogateres has called for mobilization to prevent three scheduled evictions in October. Meanwhile, housing activists continue to maintain a camp in Plaça Catalunya, Barcelona, as part of an ongoing movement against the current housing crisis.
Separately, in Terrassa, three individuals have been arrested following a shooting in the Can Parellada neighborhood. Two Civil Guard officers were injured while tracking a group of thieves on Europa Street; one officer is reported to be in serious condition. The Mossos d'Esquadra's Criminal Investigation Division is leading the search for a fourth suspect.
